More than 8,000 drugs are covered by the public drug insurance plan. They are included in a regularly updated list.
The exception drug measure enables the entire population to obtain coverage for certain specific drugs. For each of these drugs, the indications recognized for reimbursement are listed in the appendix to the Drug List. This list is updated periodically, which may lead to the addition or withdrawal of certain exceptional drugs, or to changes in the indications recognized for reimbursement.
To obtain authorization for an exception drug, the insured person must obtain prior approval from the Régie. A request for payment authorization must be submitted by an authorized prescriber.
